Other Characters: Bodhi Rook
Character Name: Princess Entrapta
Series: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Age: 16
From When?: When the black garnet’s sapping of power from the rest of Etheria failed. In canon Entrapta is unharmed, but it does get explosive in there for a bit.
Inmate: Entrapta doesn’t mean anybody any harm, as a rule, but she’s incapable of considering that harm when her own desires are at play, or when her feelings are hurt. She nearly destroys the world because she found a neat way to do it and wanted to test it out. She hesitated approximately zero seconds to restart a research project that almost destroyed her own kingdom because it was still interesting and she could probably do better this time. She became distracted by neat robots and almost left her friends to the tender mercies of the Evil Horde in the process, and defected to said Horde because they hadn’t come back to look for her after a few days. Besides, their technology was cooler and they were nice to her. She might defect back on the same kind of whim, but the manic, impulsive selfishness that governs her every decision would be to thank, not any kind of principle. Entrapta’s issue is self-absorption and ambition, not malice, but she’s a massive force of destruction all the same.
Arrival: She agreed to come. And believes she’s pulling a fast one on the Admiral. A place where time doesn’t apply, people from all kinds of dimensions congregate, and the potential for experimentation is endless? Why would she want to get out again? Besides, she figures she’ll find a way to take control of the ship eventually.
Abilities/Powers: Entrapta is not as powerful as most Princesses from her world and achieves most of her successes with technology rather than magic, but she has one supernatural ability. Her hair is commonly described as prehensile; it can act as extra hands or form structures to support her weight at various heights and angles to help her work. This ability will be maintained on the barge. At home it can also stretch several meters to act as a grappling hook, restrain attackers, and generally be stretchy and superstrong. This will be nerfed.
Personality: Entrapta can very easily pass as harmless. She’s young, she’s adorable, she decorates in pastels and cute animal pictures. Her voice is squeaky and she’s socially awkward, but in an un-self-conscious and gleeful way that makes her more endearing than awkward. Even once the tendency to mad science emerges, she seems pretty cutesy. She gives all her robots hats to wear and they communicate with her in sweet little chirps and sighs. Sure, she can be a bit rude, but it’s usually because she finds you interesting. Some people might even be flattered by the single-minded attention she showers intriguing people with. She only drinks soda and eats miniature versions of food, for fuck’s sake.
Miniature food she used to make her servants deliver to her through an immense, heavily trapped, ominous labyrinth full of trick doors and constantly shifting misdirects that even she could only reliably navigate with a live map. She let them stop not because they hated it (she didn’t notice or ask) but because her robots were more reliable. Labyrinths are cool. Hers was decorated with really cute posters of kittens scattered occasionally across the dark expanse of wandering metal walls. The labyrinth encapsulates everything about Entrapta--her brilliance, her total disinterest in the feelings or experiences of others when they don’t seem to be relevant to her projects, her insistence on getting her own way (rarely contested--she is a princess, after all).
She loves her labyrinth, though. And her robots, even when they were trying to kill her due to a virus her experimentation accidentally released into their programming. And the friends who came in the nick of time to save her from her own hubris. Entrapta is easy with affection to anyone who’ll accept it. Robots do so most reliably when you build them that way, but when she encounters organic sapients who don’t seem to mind her eccentricities she’s just as inclined to shower them with affection. Affection usually comes in the form of asking annoying questions and hovering, but she means it, and paying her (and her theories) the slightest bit of positive attention will win her over. Until she gets distracted, or feels the slightest bit betrayed. She means well, but even friendship is all about Entrapta, and if you upset her she’s going to lose interest quickly.
Unsurprisingly, this makes her very easy to manipulate. The things that upset her are pretty simple to avoid, and as she’s not particularly interested in anybody’s motivations or broader plans, she’s certainly not going to burden herself with that sort of distraction. Need her to build defenses for your righteous rebellion against the forces of evil? Sure, you’re friends. Need to hack the planet, upsetting the very balance that sustains life and magic for everyone on it? Sounds really cool, she’s got you. An immense amount of damage can be done by somebody who doesn’t mean anything by it.
So while you can get her to do what you want quite easily, getting her to believe anything in particular is difficult. Entrapta sees most social situations, from parties to politics to wars, as interesting little experiments and a backdrop to whatever cool thing she's doing. Principles are not her strong point, and loyalty isn't a virtue she's ever given any thought. Entrapta's allegiance has to be managed pretty heavily. In fairness, she's very young, completely spoiled, and absolutely brilliant. She's never had a reason to learn to handle so much as her own emotions, never mind the world at large.
Barge Reactions: The barge is an infinite playground of cool technology, information sources from around the multiverse, people with incredible abilities and unknown insight, and potentially even tiny food. She’s not going to want to leave. Breaches and floods will only be new chances to gather unprecedented data.
Path to Redemption: Entrapta basically only needs one lesson; other people matter. Scientific progress, shiny robots, and groundbreaking theories are all good things that still should not be acquired without any regard to what will happen to everyone else. Hacking the planet is a really cool thing to do. You still can’t do it. Her starting point is one without any anger or disinclination. She likes having friends. She just needs to unlearn her selfishness and superiority. That said, she sees absolutely nothing wrong with anything she’s ever done except for failing to complete experiments, so while the road might be short, it won’t be an easy one.
